Stories Off The Wall! Project Fund Success

Stories Off The Wall!

Project Fund Success

In March this year ARtS Narrogin put together a grant application for the Country Arts WA Project Fund. Entitled ‘Stories off the Wall!’ the project aimed to provide local artists with professional development and mentoring during the design and production phases of a large scale mural project. With this opportunity and support we envisaged that local artists would develop the confidence to tackle future mural projects of their own around Narrogin.

In July, we were delighted to hear that our application had been successful and ‘Stories off the Wall!’ could progress full steam ahead! Working with renowned Western Australian artist Rebecca Cool, three Community Design Workshops were run in September. These provided community members, kids, youth and local artists with an opportunity to contribute to the mural design and to find out about how Rebecca plans and designs large scale murals. After collating all the ideas and drawings, Rebecca is now working on developing a cohesive design for the mural planned to run along the Railway Institute Hall.

So what’s next? The wall has been rendered and is drying nicely, the design is coming along and is being prepared to present to the Townscape committee and the Town Council for their approval and we are busy preparing for Rebecca’s return in October to commence painting. This is another fantastic opportunity for local artists to continue developing their skills and knowledge and for keen painters out there to get involved in a great community project. Painting is due to commence on October 20th and carry through to the end of the month.

The project was made possible by the Australian Governments regional arts program, the Regional Arts Fund, which gives all Australians better access to opportunities to practise and experience the arts. The Regional Arts Fund is administered in Western Australia by Country Arts WA.
